KOTA KINABALU, July 10 (Bernama) -- The harrowing phenomenon of torrential streams gushing down Mount Kinabalu early this morning following heavy rain since yesterday, sparked alarm for a group of climbers.
The dawn incident at about 6 am went viral on social media, showing a torrent of heavy rain gushing down in streams from the mountain top, made the trail of descent slippery and risky.
A video uploaded on the Mount Kinabalu Facebook page showed climbers straining when clinging onto ropes to descend the peak during the rainy surge amid gusty winds.
However, Ranau fire and rescue station (BBP) chief Rantey Fred said his department did not receive word on the incident so far and advised all parties to take precautionary measures.
"So far, we have not received any reports about the incident," he said when contacted by Bernama.
