Instill Integrity With Education, Not Just Enforcement — Chief Secretary

KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 (Bernama) -- Strengthening integrity must go beyond enforcement and start with education to build a culture of integrity and a principled society, said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

He emphasised that instilling integrity among civil servants begins at the individual level, by doing the right thing and making it a way of life.

“Integrity cannot be a one-off initiative. It requires consistent effort and long-term commitment,” he said after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner’s shooting programme at the Malaysian Prisons College shooting range in Kajang today.

Also present were MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim and Malaysian Prisons College director Zulkifli Abdul Manah.

Commenting on the event, Shamsul Azri highlighted the importance of balancing work and sports to maintain both mental and physical fitness.

He said activities such as the MACC’s shooting programme are not only vital for improving self-defence, sharpening focus and discipline, but also contribute to mental and physical well-being, enabling civil servants to perform at their best.

Meanwhile, Azam said the support of the Chief Secretary to the Government, as head of the civil service, is crucial in advancing the anti-corruption agenda and strengthening integrity.

He noted that the Chief Secretary has taken the lead by implementing clear policies aimed at enhancing integrity and the overall delivery of public services.

“The MACC fully supports these efforts and works closely with the civil service, particularly through training programmes to reinforce integrity among civil servants,” he said.
