KAPIT, June 26 (Bernama) -- A total of 40 infrastructure projects fully funded by the Sarawak government are being and will be implemented in the Kapit Division under the supervision of the Sarawak Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development.

Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said that all the projects involved an allocation of RM1.233 billion as part of the state government's ongoing efforts to drive rural development.

"Of the total, 19 projects have been fully completed while five others are currently being implemented with a total cost of RM116 million covering the construction of roads and bridges that are much needed by the rural population," he said.

According to him, the remaining 16 projects worth RM721 million are expected to be tendered this year.

"This reflects the Sarawak Government's continued commitment to ensuring that development is implemented comprehensively, especially in rural areas like Kapit," he said when officiating the groundbreaking ceremony for the Nanga Ibau/Ulu Sungai Ibau road here, today.

Uggah, who is also the Minister of Finance and New Economy II, said the road project involves the construction of a 12.5-kilometre road according to JKR R1 standards with a total value of RM99.9 million.

The project also includes the construction of two spur roads, three iron bridges, earthworks, the installation of concrete under-road water channels (culverts), a drainage system and the installation of road equipment.

He added that the project is scheduled to be completed within 36 months starting May 5, 2025, and is expected to benefit 11 longhouses involving 219 doors and almost 1,900 residents.

"This project will also provide better access to the Nanga Ibau Health Clinic and two primary schools, namely SK Nanga Ibau and SK Nanga Segenok," he explained.

Uggah challenged the contractor Sky High Construction Sdn Bhd to try to complete the project within 30 months, which was agreed to by the contractor involved.
