SEPANG, June 24 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) continues to play its role in encouraging creative thinking among students through the Creative Thinking Workshop held at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Batu Laut here today, in line with the Satu Pemimpin Satu Kampung (One Leader One Village) Santuni MADANI initiative.
The one-day workshop aimed to boost students’ self-confidence in generating new ideas while enhancing their higher-order thinking (HOT) and critical thinking skills, particularly in writing and problem-solving.
Bernama Features Desk assistant editor Erda Khursyiah Basir, who conducted the workshop, said the activities received encouraging response and were effective in prompting students to think outside the box.
“They are very enthusiastic and eager to learn new things. For example, when they see a problem, they do not stick to just one solution. Instead, they think more openly and look at it from various angles.
“We also encouraged students to come forward and share their creative ideas and to speak up with confidence while also showing respect and courtesy when expressing themselves,” she said when met here.
Meanwhile, SMK Batu Laut principal Johan Mohalana Abd Hamid said the programme played a significant role in boosting students’ confidence and helping to improve their academic performance, especially in preparation for examinations.
He said the exposure provided through the workshop could help students recognise their potential and assist them in choosing the right academic path and future career.
Form Four student Nurul Izzah Zamri said the workshop was both fun and informative, with content presented in a clear and engaging way.
“I hope Bernama will continue to organise similar programmes to inspire creative and innovative thinking among students,” said the student, who aspires to become a surgeon.
Apart from the workshop, Bernama also organised the Bibliotherapy Workshop Series 2 at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Batu Laut, an initiative by the Bernama Digital Library aimed at promoting the bibliotherapy method among students.
Led by Bernama Digital Library senior manager Hasnita Ibrahim, who is also the chief coordinator of the Santuni MADANI Programme, the workshop involved 30 selected Year Five pupils and featured storytelling therapy, book therapy, music therapy, and an introduction to the concept of bibliotherapy.
In an effort to address educational challenges faced by local children, several other programmes have been planned for implementation throughout the year, including a series of bibliotherapy workshops, a creative story writing workshop, and sports activities involving the village community.
The programmes, which will run until October 2025, will see the participation of students, teachers, the local community, and the community centre, with an impact report to be presented at the end of the fifth series.
Bernama had earlier organised a programme at SK Batu Laut in conjunction with World Book and Copyright Day, which featured the ‘Jom Baca Bersama 10 Minit’ event, the Bibliotherapy Workshop Series 1 and the Bernama AKRAB Guidance Session.
