KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) made history in the broadcasting industry by becoming the first media agency to use a recreational vehicle or motorhome for field reporting operations.
Head of Bernama Radio Azlan Idris said the launch of the BERNAMA Motorhome-Mobile Studio, officiated by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today, marks a historic milestone in the nation's broadcasting industry. It highlights the innovative use of a motorhome for field coverage.
He said the mobile studio not only allowed journalists to conduct live interviews with respondents but also provided commercial value for Bernama's clients who needed on-site coverage for large-scale events.
"This advanced vehicle for field reporting is not only crucial for journalists but also serves a commercial purpose for Bernama's clients. The motorhome will also act as a base for journalists working on the ground during disasters, requiring them to remain in the field for several days.
"In addition, it serves as a hub for conducting live interviews, whether for Bernama Wires, Bernama TV, or Bernama Radio," he said after the National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2025 Strategic Partners’ Appreciation Ceremony and launch of the BERNAMA Motorhome at Wisma Bernama, here, today.
Present were the Communications Ministry secretary-general, Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, Bernama's chief executive officer, Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, Bernama's editor-in-chief, Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, who is also the HAWANA 2025 project director, and other senior Bernama officials.
The vehicle will be showcased during the HAWANA 2025 Summit at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTC KL) on June 14.
Bernama adopted the motorhome as a new broadcasting medium for delivering live news content from the field, as well as Bernama TV and Radio programmes and major events.
The vehicle can broadcast live using multiple cameras and operate in areas without electricity, such as during disaster coverage and in remote locations.
The motorhome, equipped with six cameras and advanced editing tools, can create high-quality content for clients and improve live news reporting from the field, benefiting both broadcast and social media platforms.
It can accommodate up to six personnel at a time, featuring facilities that include a mini studio, work area, food preparation space, restroom facilities, 5G Internet connectivity, and Starlink access.
