SEREMBAN, July 30 (Bernama) -- Premises owners in Negeri Sembilan have been urged to promptly take down faded or torn Jalur Gemilang and state flags and replace them with new ones, says Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
Aminuddin said that people from all walks of life in the state should show respect for the national flag and uphold the country’s image by flying it as a sign of patriotism.
“If the flag is already worn out and crumpled, replace it with a new one... we must have a sense of respect and love for the country, don’t fly a damaged flag.
“So in conjunction with National Month, all citizens in the state are encouraged to purchase their own flags and fly them... don’t just wait for free flags,” he told reporters after chairing the State Executive Council meeting at Wisma Negeri here today.
He was commenting on the actions of several premises owners in the city who were still displaying tattered and torn flags, which spoiled the view and did not reflect the spirit of patriotism.
Aminuddin said that in conjunction with the National Month and Malaysia Day, the state government will hold the Fly the Jalur Gemilang programme from Aug 1 to Sept 16.
In another development, Aminuddin said the State Government was urging all telecommunications service providers (telcos) to take immediate action on abandoned cables in their maintenance areas to prevent them from posing a danger to the public.
He called on all telco companies to look into the matter and remove unused cables to avoid theft and other damage.
“For example, there are cases of underground cable theft, and then they leave the underground duct open, which can be dangerous to road users, especially motorcyclists.
“When we lodge a report, they (the telcos) do not fix it immediately, so this matter needs to be reviewed, and the responsible parties must always monitor it,” he said.
