KOTA KINABALU, July 24 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is expanding the use of its Nexus application at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), to assist students in testing internet speed, functionality, and overall network quality.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said that the application, available for download on both iOS and Android platforms, enables users to identify internet accessibility issues and assess data coverage in their areas.
He added that the Ministry of Communications is also leveraging the network sharing policy, to encourage collaboration among telecommunications providers in addressing internet and mobile network access issues.
“We will use data, including from the MCMC Nexus app, to help improve internet quality,” he said.
Earlier, Fahmi inspected the university’s Wi-Fi infrastructure, which has been enhanced with the installation of 1,010 new access points.
He noted that UMS students can now enjoy campus Wi-Fi with speeds ranging from 200 to 300 Mbps.
Fahmi expressed hope that the improved access points will allow students to experience faster, broader, and more secure internet connectivity across campus.
