Johor Partners With Various Parties To Replace 969 Ageing Beds At HSA

JOHOR BAHRU, July 19 (Bernama) -- A total of 969 out of 1,206 beds at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) here have been identified for replacement, with some believed to have been in use since the 1970s.

Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the state government has taken proactive steps to ensure patient comfort by collaborating with various quarters to replace the ageing beds.

He said the initiative has made encouraging progress, with 860 beds donated by corporate entities, non-governmental organisations and foundations since the beginning of this month.

“The contributions include various types of beds, including those for intensive care units (ICUs), as well as standard beds for adults, children and infants.

“We hope to complete the replacement of all 969 beds by September,” he told reporters after attending a handover ceremony of donated beds by the Fo Guang Shan Association at the PP1 Female Medical Ward at HSA today.

Also present was HSA director Dr Mohamad Nizam Subahir.

Ling said the donated beds would be delivered to the hospital in stages.

“I was informed that it is currently quite difficult to obtain hospital beds locally, and they need to be imported, which takes time. Hence, the distribution will be done in phases,” he said.

He added that the initiative enables the Health Ministry’s allocations to be channelled to other pressing needs, such as upgrading hospital facilities.

“That is why the state government took the initiative to assist the hospital as part of our shared responsibility and sincere commitment,” he said.
