JOHOR BAHRU, July 30 (Bernama) -- The Johor government will introduce the Johor Xtif campaign in a bid to promote sports as a healthy and active lifestyle practice among the community.
State Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah said the campaign will touch on several elements, including the family institutions, schools, government agencies and the corporate sector.
He said Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi is expected to launch the initiative in August.
"The details will be shared at the launch, to be held in Mersing,” he told a media conference after officiating the Bank Rakyat Johor International Marathon (BRJIM) 2025 here today.
Also present were State Sports Council (MSNJ) director Mohd Ekmaluddin Ishak and Bank Rakyat chief executive officer Ahmad Shahril Mohd Shariff.
Mohd Hairi also said that BRJIM 2025, co-organised by MSNJ and Bank Rakyat as the main sponsor, is expected to attract over 8,000 local and foreign runners.
"With the participation of thousands of runners, I am confident BRJIM 2025 will not only promote Johor on the international stage, but also invigorate the state's economy through the tourism and services sectors,” he said.
He added that the marathon would also be able to strengthen the state's position as a regional sports hub, aligning with the aspirations of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, for the state to become a Sports Nation by 2030.
The programme, also supported by the Johor Stadium Corporation and to be held in Kota Jail here on Nov 8-9, will feature five race categories - 42-kilometre (km) full marathon and 21km half-marathon that are open to participants aged 18 and above; as well as the 10km run (16 years and above); 5km run (13 years and above); and the 2km Nuri Dash Run (children aged 10 to 12).
