WASHINGTON, April 19 (Bernama-dpa) -- US President Donald Trump has said US representatives will be in Islamabad on Monday for further negotiations with Iran.
"My Representatives are going to Islamabad, Pakistan - They will be there tomorrow evening, for Negotiations," Trump wrote in a long post on social media on Sunday, reported German news agency dpa.
A first round of negotiations between Iran and the United States in Islamabad ended without tangible results last weekend, leaving doubt whether a resolution to the war launched by the US and Israel on February 28 could be found before the current ceasefire expires on Wednesday.
A major sticking point that remains is the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for global oil trade.
In what appeared to be a sign that behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts were making progress, Iran announced on Friday that it was reopening the strait, but reversed the move on Saturday after Trump said the US would uphold its naval blockade of Iranian ports until a peace deal was made.
Trump said the US was "offering a very fair and reasonable DEAL."
"I hope they take it because, if they don't, the United States is going to knock out every single Power Plant, and every single Bridge, in Iran."
