KUCHING, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Mega book sale organiser Big Bad Wolf Sdn Bhd is featuring thousands of titles, with 70 per cent dedicated to children at the Sarawak Book Fair 2025 as part of efforts to nurture reading habits from a young age.
Big Bad Wolf Sponsorship, Partnerships and Public Relations senior manager Chloe Lim Sooi Yee said families with young children are the main target group since children’s books have consistently contributed the largest share of sales.
“This is our fourth book sale in Kuching, and this year, we have increased the number of titles compared to last year. This is how we support the reading culture.
“Our mission is to ensure everyone, regardless of background, has access to books. That is why we are placing great emphasis on the children’s book collection,” she told reporters at the opening of the Sarawak Book Fair 2025 here today.
Lim said the company is targeting around 55,000 visitors during the fair, taking place from Sept 27 to Oct 5.
According to Lim, the books are priced affordably, starting from as low as RM3, to encourage more families to own reading materials. There are also various vouchers and special offers throughout the fair.
“Among them are vouchers worth RM5 for every visitor, a RM15 rebate with a minimum purchase of RM60 for the next purchase, and discounts for Maybank cardholders. There are also special discounts for civil servants, students and educators,” she said.
She said this year’s fair is special as it is being held for the first time in collaboration with Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, a key strategic partner in promoting the reading culture.
Meanwhile, one of the visitors, Florence Anding, 42, said she was excited by the wide selection of books at this year’s fair.
“I have attended book fairs in Sarawak before, but this time it is bigger with more choices. I hope events like this can be organised more frequently in the future,” said the mother of two.
Another visitor, Elizabeth Luwin Baing, 35, from Sri Aman, said she planned to bring her children to the fair during the weekend.
The Big Bad Wolf Borneo Malaysia tour will continue at Boulevard Shopping Mall, Miri, from Oct 23 to Nov 3, followed by the Sabah International Convention Centre, Kota Kinabalu, from Nov 12 to 16.
