Expo 2025 Osaka Opens Path To Sustainable Future For Malaysian Companies

KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 (Bernama) -- Expo 2025 Osaka provides significant opportunities for Malaysian construction companies, particularly in sustainable development.

TasBlock (M) Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Nor Hasima Hassan said the expo represented a defining moment in the company’s journey as a sustainable construction innovator. “This expo presents an opportunity to showcase our solutions at one of the world’s most prestigious innovation platforms. It is both an honour and a milestone for the company,” she said in a statement.

TasBlock is a manufacturer of Industrialised Building System (IBS)-status building materials.

Nor Hasima said the exposure at the expo has opened doors to business discussions with stakeholders from Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe, with conversations extending beyond branding to potential licensing, project collaborations and market entry strategies.

She noted that the company’s biocomposite building system, developed using agricultural by-products such as kenaf and palm oil waste, has drawn strong interest from international delegates, sustainability-focused developers and policymakers.

“The system is particularly suitable for tropical climates like Malaysia. The panels are water-resistant, mould-resistant and termite-proof. Their hollow structure offers thermal and sound insulation, and the material is classified as non-combustible. “Our systems have already been implemented in school construction projects across Malaysia,” she continued. “To overcome initial scepticism and promote adoption, we developed a floating jetty in Semporna using kenaf biocomposite decking in 2018, which remains in use after seven years in saltwater.”

She emphasised that local crops like kenaf have the potential to power high-value, export-ready construction systems, positioning Malaysia as a regional leader in sustainable industry.

Looking ahead, Nor Hasima said TasBlock anticipates that global construction practices will be reshaped by trends such as labour shortages, material volatility and climate-related challenges. “The company believes that off-site manufacturing, automation and climate-adaptive design will become the norm. Our technology sits at the intersection of all these changes. We are not just offering a product but enabling a smarter, faster and more sustainable way to build,” she added.

Running from April 13 to Oct 13, 2025, Expo 2025 Osaka is expected to welcome over 28 million visitors.

The Malaysia Pavilion stands out as a key attraction at the expo, with TasBlock featured as part of the showcase.
