TERENGGANU FISHERIES REMOVES TWO FOREIGN PREDATORY SPECIES FROM TELABAK LAKE, BESUT
KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Fisheries Department will intensify activities to remove predatory foreign fish species to conserve ecosystems in areas that have been identified this year.
Its director, Ruzaidi Mamat said the move was following the discovery of two species of predatory foreign fish, namely 'peacock bass' and 'patin chao phraya' in the waters of Tasik Telabak near Kampung Durian Telur, Besut recently.
“Seven species of foreign fish, namely Chao Phraya catfish (four) and peacock bass (three) were successfully removed from the lake in an operation held for two days, last Friday and Saturday.
So far, predatory foreign fish species have been detected in several areas of Sungai Terengganu and Tasik Kenyir in Hulu Terengganu but Ruzaidi said the population was still under control and did not threaten the natural habitat of native fish in those locations.

TWO CHARGED WITH CHEATING OVER RUBBER GLOVES PRODUCTS
KUALA LUMPUR: Two friends claimed trial at the Sessions Court here today on charges of cheating a man over the distribution of 180,000 boxes of rubber gloves involving a loss of over RM1 million last year.
Wan Ahmad Farhaan Wan Kia Salleh Nor, 30, and Mohd Fami Sharin, 48, were charged with jointly deceiving Mohamad Faiz Yaacob, 35, by tricking him into believing that they would distribute 180,000 boxes of rubber glove products.
This induced Mohamad Faiz to transfer RM1,001,650 via online into a bank account in the name of Syarikat Tuntas Abadi Sdn Bhd owned by Wan Ahmad Farhaan (the first accused), which the victim would not have handed over if not deceived.
They were accused of committing the act at a premises in Jalan Damansara, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, here on March 17, 2021.

MSDEAF INITIATES MEASURES TO PROMOTE WORLD SPORTS BODY FOR THE DEAF
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Deaf Sports Association (MSDeaf) has taken steps to promote sports for the deaf by introducing the Deaf International Football Association (DIFA) and the Asia-Pacific Deaf Sports Confederation (APDSC) to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
MSDeaf in a statement said a meeting was held yesterday for the purpose at the AFC headquarters, here involving AFC Deputy Secretary-General Shin Man Gil, DIFA President Iakov Frenkel and APDSC President Mohamad Pargar.
"The proposal was previously submitted by MSDeaf President Ong Shin Ruenn during the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) and APDSC Congress so that the world sports body for the deaf is better known as well as get the beneficial cooperation of world sports bodies such as IOC, FIFA, AFC and AFF and others.
“It should be noted that Malaysia will be the first host for the Under 21 World Deaf Futsal Cup (U-21) in Kuala Lumpur from Dec 5-16 while South Korea will host the Asia-Pacific World Cup Qualifying Football Championship from Nov 1-15,” the association said.

MAN NABBED OVER DRUG TRAFFICKING
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a man on suspicion of trafficking various types of drugs believed to be able to cater to up to 31,380 addicts.
Sentul police chief ACP Beh Eng Lai said the 39-year-old local suspect was arrested outside his house in Segambut, here, last Friday.
He said the suspect is believed to have been active in the Klang Valley since the beginning of this year, adding that police found 300 Erimin 5 pills weighing 93.88 grammes (g) in his trouser pocket.
“As a result of further interrogation, the suspect took the police to his house where Ketamine weighing 130g, methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA) weighing 1.5 kilogrammes and ecstasy pills weighing 7.25 g and estimated to be worth RM121,863 were seized.

JOHOR MULLS BUILDING NEW ZOO
ISKANDAR PUTERI: The state government plans to build a new zoo on a 20.2-hectare area site here, said Johor Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor.
However, he said the plan was still in the early stages of discussion.
Mohd Jafni said the state government was also looking at several zoos such as the Singapore Zoo, Melaka Zoo and Taiping Zoo as references for the construction of the new zoo.

PPS IN BANDAR BAHARU CLOSED
ALOR SETAR: The Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) opened at Dewan Keda Sungai Tengas which housed 26 flood victims from six families in Mukim Selama in Bandar Baharu District near Kulim was closed this evening.
Bandar Baharu Left (PA) District Disaster Management Committee Secretariat Abdul Rahim Khairuddin said the PPS was closed at 2 pm after floodwaters in the victims’ residential areas completely receded.
“The weather in Bandar Baharu is sunny right now. We will continue to monitor the river water level today. "Every time it rains heavily, we will monitor the 'hot spot' locations," he said in a statement today.

OVER 4,000 VEHICLES CROSS OVER THREE BORDER GATES IN KELANTAN - RTD
KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan Road Transport Department (JPJ) has recorded over 4,000 vehicles entering and leaving the state's three border gates following the Malaysia-Thailand crossing clearance since June 1.
Kelantan JPJ director Mohd Misuari Abdullah said of the total, Malaysian vehicles to Thailand (outbound) amounted to 1,774 vehicles while those entering the country (inbound) amounted to 2,236 vehicles.
He said the entry of the vehicle was recorded at the JPJ Rantau Panjang, Pengkalan Kubor and Bukit Bunga Border Control Stations.
“Of the three border gates, the one in Rantau Panjang recorded the highest number of vehicles exiting and entering at 2,350 vehicles.

ICQS KOTA LAKSAMANA NEEDS UPGRADING
MELAKA: Several improvements and maintenance need to be implemented at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex (ICQS) in Kota Laksamana here if the complex that houses the Melaka-Dumai International Ferry Terminal is fully operational in the near future.
Deputy Finance Minister II Yamani Hafez Musa said in his brief visit today he received reports of leaks in some parts of the complex which were feared to damage other assets of the premises if immediate action was not taken, adding that this would inconvenience users especially tourists from Indonesia who use the terminal.
He said based on preliminary information, 80 to 90 per cent of Indonesians who entered Melaka through the complex intended to seek medical treatment at several private hospitals here, thus being contributors to the health tourism sector in the state.

OVER RM140,000 IN CASH ASSISTANCE FOR TAXI DRIVERS IN PAHANG - MB
KUANTAN: A total of 704 taxi drivers in Pahang today received one-off cash assistance of RM200 involving an allocation of RM140,800.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the state government always cared about the people’s welfare and would do its best to help them.
"This assistance is targeted, we make sure no one is left behind because there is a committee that monitors.
“The state government will continue with other clusters such as single mothers and university students later," he told reporters at the 'Bantuan Prihatin Pahang' (BPP) 2022 Phase 2 presentation ceremony for the Taxi Drivers Cluster which was also attended by State Secretary Datuk Seri Dr Salehuddin Ishak.
