MELAKA, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- Melaka police collected almost RM1.39 million from 11,114 summonses paid in conjunction with a 50 per cent discount offer during the launch of the National Month and ‘Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2019’ programme at Dataran Pahlawan Bandar Hilir, here.
The programme was held for two days from last Saturday.
Melaka Traffic Enforcement Department chief, Supt Hasan Basri Yahya said RM568,920 was collected from 5,831 summonses for traffic offences such as exceeding the speed limit and causing traffic obstruction.
Another RM819,190 was collected from 5,283 summonses under the category of summonses issued directly to drivers or vehicle owners.
"A total of 4,842 summonses were settled on Saturday and another 6,272 yesterday with a total amount of RM1,388,110 collected," he said in a statement, here, today.
However, the discount offer was not applicable to some traffic offences such as accident, non-compoundable, warrant and court order summonses, as well as current year ‘Op Selamat’ summonses.
