TAWAU, Aug 4 (Bernama) -- Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal today urged government-linked companies (GLC) in the state to emulate Sawit Kinabalu which has constructed mechanical equipment to enhance its competency.
He said Sawit Kinabalu's initiative to invent machinery that would make its job more efficient, cost-saving and relevant was commendable.
"The technology may not be sophisticated but the machinery can function well and at the same time the company has become the pioneer in using them," he told reporters after viewing the 'Sawit Tambadau' and 'Sawit Crawler' at the company's premises here today.
The chief minister acknowledged that Sawit Kinabalu though facing various challenges in light of palm oil market volatility had striven to remain resilient and competitive.
"Sawit Kinabalu is a GLC that has vast plantations and we are aware and know that the demand and price of palm oil fluctuate and the downtrend is still persisting," he said.
Mohd Shafie also emphasised on research and development to improve production capacity, save cost and maximise product earnings.
