KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 (Bernama) -- Private camps used during the National Service Training Programme (PLKN) can be used for the Malaysia Future Leaders School (MFLS) programme, said Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong.

He said this  would only be done if there was a need to increase the number of camps.

"The acquisition of the camps will  be via  the open tender method," he said in reply to a question from Alice Lau Kiong Yieng (PH-Lanang) on the status of the private camps in the Dewan Rakyat today.

She has said that the government-owned Bina Negara camps were sufficient to place MFLS participants.

He said that as many as 14 Wawasan Negara camps formerly known as Kem Bina Negara were used for the purpose of implementing MFLS throughout the country at present.

He said four MFLS programme cohorts were implemented involving 5,940 participants since the programme began on April 1.

The programme, he said, targeted 35,000 participants this year comprising secondary school students between the ages of 15 and 17.
