No new date fixed for MPC AGM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 (Bernama) -- More than one week after the postponement of the Malaysian Paralympic Council (MPC) annual general meeting (AGM), there are still no new dates in sight for the new AGM and the status of the governing body’s election.

MPC secretary-general Siti Zaharah Abdul Khalid when contacted by Bernama said the new date to hold the AGM has not been decided as members of the executive council have not called for a meeting.

“The exco meeting maybe held this week or next week. We are not sure when as the president (SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin) has not made any announcements,” she said.

Siti Zaharah said the new AGM date could only be made at the exco meeting and the date should be submitted to the Sports Commissioner for approval.

Efforts by Bernama to obtain feedback from the president however did not get a response.           

For the record, MPC took the decision to postpone its 22nd AGM which should have been held on June 29 simultaneously with the body's election.

Based on its constitution, MPC should call all affiliated members to discuss the new date within 30 days of the postponement before submitting it to the Sports Commissioner. 

The crisis erupted when a challenge emerged for number one seat in MPC after former Youth and Sports Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin in his capacity as Malaysian Wheelchair Rugby Federation deputy president submitted his nomination form allegedly after the stipulated deadline.

The matter created unhappiness with the other candidate, Datuk Seri Megat D Shahriman Zaharuddin who sent the evidence to the Sports Commissioner to review the eligibility of Khairy.
