ALOR SETAR, June 15 (Bernama) -- Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah of Kedah attended a state-level Aidilfitri open house celebration held at the Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium here this evening.
Sultanah Maliha Tengku Ariff accompanied the Sultan, along with other members of the Kedah royal family at the function which began at 7.30pm.
Also present were Kedah chief minister Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir and the entire state executive council.
The various state departments and agencies had sponsored a variety of local delicacies for the function which also featured singing performances and was attended by about 10,000 people of various ethnicities.
In his address, Mukhriz said such celebrations served to strengthen ties and harmony between the various ethnicities in the country.
“The celebration of all ethnicities is what makes Malaysia unique,” he said, adding that this was also in line with the ‘Malaysia Baru’ spirit which brings all peoples together to work collectively.
