KUALA LUMPUR, March 12 (Bernama) -- Police have arrested a 52-year-old man for his offensive comments on Hinduism on Facebook, yesterday.
The suspect, who goes by the name ‘Zamri Bin Abd Razak’ on Facebook, was arrested to assist in the investigations under Section 298A of the Penal Code on religious grounds for causing disharmony, disunity or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will, or prejudicing the maintenance of harmony or unity.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the suspect was also detained to assist in investigations under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network services.
“An application to have the suspect remanded will be made today,” he said in a statement.
Mohamad Fuzi also reminded the public not to abuse social media or any communications network by uploading or sharing any kind of provocative statement that touches on religious and racial sensitivities in the country.
