KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 25 (Bernama) -- Employers in the private sector have been urged to immediately implement prayer time arrangements for Muslims at the workplace based on the recently launched guideline.
Union Network International-Malaysia Labour Centre (UNI-MLC) president Datuk Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal in a statement today said this was an important matter which had been neglected for very long.
“Sometimes, there is a question mark on whether the workers are allowed to perform prayers during working hours," he said.
Mohamed Shafie said that if the guideline was adhered to, employees would feel more comfortable which in turn, improves their productivity.
On Jan 17, the Human Resource Ministry launched a guideline on prayer during working hours for Muslims in the private sector nationwide.
Deputy Minister Datuk Mahfuz Omar said the guideline was prepared by the Labour Department in collaboration with the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) following discussions and studies held between the two parties in 2017.
