KKMM waiting for full report on alleged leakage of Finas' funds - Eddin Syazlee

PETALING JAYA, Sept 27  (Bernama) -- The Communication and Multimedia Ministry is still waiting for the full report on alleged leakage of funds belonging to the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia , said its Deputy Minister Eddin Syazlee Shith.

"What was stated in the media report  (on the leakage) is still under probe. I am still waiting for accurate information and a comprehensive report from Finas.

"So far there are no indications that there was a leakage of funds.  Insya-Allah (God willing) everything is okay, all parties are giving good cooperation including Finas’ director-general,” he told reporters after making a visit to Finas here today.

A local daily had reported that from  2015-2016, RM16 million in Finas’ funds were channelled to several film production companies owned by two individuals to produce seven feature films and an animation film but till today they had yet to see the light of day.

Meanwhile, Finas director-general Datuk Fauzi Ayob said he needed a little bit more time to get the report ready.

"This matter involves Finas’ affairs from years before, so I need a little time to look into it.  All investigations are at the internal stage,” he said.

On other matters,  Eddin Syazlee said the local film industry was showing encouraging development with Finas’ collection standing at RM101.14 million for 37 films produced thus far this year. 

"The collection is much better than last year where the total collection for 59 films was RM58 million,” he said, adding that the improved collection was due to producers coming up with more attractive works.

He expected the situation to only get better,
