KLCI Futures Likely To Continue Upward Momentum Next Week

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 20 (Bernama) -- The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) futures contract on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives is likely to continue upward momentum next week, tracking the underlying cash market.

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd vice-president of equity research Thong Pak Leng said the benchmark index is expected to trade within the range of 1,650-1,680, despite trading being muted in conjunction with the Christmas and year-end holidays.

“This week, the index has already delivered a confirmed breakout above 1,650, supported by improving market participation. This breakout strengthens the case for a continuation move rather than a false rally.

“A sustained hold above 1,650 would open the path toward the 1,670-1,680 range in the next phase,” he told Bernama.

He also believes any pullback next week should be viewed as a buy-on-weakness opportunity, with the index well-positioned to challenge higher levels in the sessions ahead.

On a Friday-to-Friday basis, the December 2025 contract was 23 points higher to 1,668.50, the January 2026 contract gained 24.5 points to 1,672.0, the March 2026 contract added 23.5 points to 1,655.50, and the June 2026 contract rose by 30.5 points to 1,662.50.

Turnover for the week declined to 36,11 lots from 40,352 lots last Friday, while open interest expanded to 46,114 contracts from 43,035 contracts previously.

The FBM KLCI rose 28.09 points to 1,665.90 from last week’s 1,637.81.
