PUTRAJAYA, July 1 (Bernama) -- Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) officers and staff are reminded to always instill a culture of high discipline and not to abuse sick leave facilities, said its director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.
He said disciplinary action would be taken against officers found to be abusing sick leave and police reports would be lodged against private clinics that issued sick leave certificates (MC) illegally.
He said there were a few officers who were sulking after being reprimanded by superiors and then submitting questionable sick leave, believed to be to avoid work.
“(Officers need) discipline, which if reprimanded, does not sulk and the next day does not give excuses for being sick with questionable sick leave letters.
“I will put an end to this culture with disciplinary action and I will file a police report with any private clinic that gives invalid leave letters,” he said when speaking at the AKPS monthly assembly here today.
Mohd Shuhaily said the practice of taking sick leave without reasonable excuse, especially after being reprimanded by a superior officer, is a culture that needs to be stopped because it affects discipline and the smooth operation of the agency.
“This is the culture that makes an enforcement organization lose its teeth when supervisors are unable to reprimand because they are worried that there will be a shortage of personnel to manage the counters tomorrow,” he said.
In this regard, he called on all AKPS members to embrace a high culture of discipline, obey the chain of command, and together strengthen the agency’s integrity and professionalism in carrying out its responsibility to guard the country’s entry points.
Earlier, Mohd Shuhaily witnessed the gimmick of launching the Superintendent Service Scheme Border, Assistant Border Superintendent and Assistant Border Superintendent.
The AKPS Service Scheme comes into effect today (July 1) as another important milestone in the development of the organisation, thus strengthening the identity of AKPS as the sole agency for the control and protection of the country's borders.
