15 MTEN Decisions To Address Global Supply Crisis Implemented

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 (Bernama) -- Fifteen of the 126 decisions made by the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) to address economic challenges and the global supply crisis have been implemented, while 111 are currently being carried out, Economy Minister Datuk Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said.

He said the decisions stemmed from discussions on 28 papers covering 13 economic sectors.

"This shows that MTEN is not merely a discussion forum. It is a platform for action. Every decision must be translated into actual implementation at the ministry and agency levels," he said during a briefing on the global supply crisis today.

Akmal Nasrullah said the government had managed the global supply crisis over the past 100 days since the onset of the conflict in West Asia through a data-driven approach, cross-ministerial coordination and targeted interventions.

He said 113 high-frequency indicators had been identified to enable the government to assess risks more quickly. The indicators are displayed on the publicly accessible Global Supply Crisis Monitoring Dashboard and cover economic, energy, food, commodity and logistics-related data.

Akmal Nasrullah said the government would continue to prioritise the people's well-being and the resilience of the national economy amid ongoing global uncertainties.

He assured that the government would ensure sufficient supplies of essential goods, stable energy supply, uninterrupted industrial operations, job security and the effective delivery of assistance to those in need.

"Global supply crises cannot be managed in isolation. Pressure on energy affects logistics, pressure on logistics affects prices, and pressure on prices affects industries. Ultimately, the people will bear the impact," he said.

He said the government would continue to use MTEN as its main policy coordination platform while closely monitoring data, taking early action and implementing targeted interventions.

Meanwhile, food price monitoring continues through the PriceCatcher system, with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) tracking 316 essential items at more than 2,000 retail premises nationwide, supported by 850 price monitoring officers.
