Tianjin’s Yongdingzhou Park Posts Record-High Negative Oxygen Ion Levels

10/06/2026 02:06 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 (Bernama) -- The concentration of negative oxygen ions monitored at Yongdingzhou Park in the China-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City reached 7,100 ions per cubic centimetre in May 2026, the highest level recorded for the same period, according to the Administrative Committee of the China-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City.

Negative oxygen ions are regarded as an indicator of air quality, with higher concentrations generally associated with fresher air.

According to the committee in a statement, the eco-city has spent more than a decade integrating urban development with nature, demonstrating that high-quality green environments can be created within urban areas.

Yongdingzhou Park, one of the earliest parks in the eco-city, features extensive green coverage and dense vegetation. The park spans 184,000 square metres and has the highest vegetation density in the eco-city.

As part of its efforts to build a garden city, the eco-city has developed an integrated landscape of rivers, coastal areas and urban spaces. Its total green space covers 12 million square metres, while per capita park green area is nearly three times the national average for Chinese cities.

The eco-city has also planned 151 kilometres of urban greenways, of which 65.6 kilometres have been completed, linking parks, wetlands and coastal areas, forming a continuous, multi-functional green network.

Drawing on Singapore’s concept of therapeutic gardens, the eco-city has incorporated horticultural therapy and landscape design to create spaces aimed at promoting physical and mental well-being.

The eco-city received the China Human Settlements and Environment Exemplary Award in 2024 and the New Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements Awards from the Global Forum on Human Settlements in 2025.
