Kota Marudu's SMK Langkon Still Waiting For Own Buildings After 16 Years

07/06/2026 09:11 PM

KOTA MARUDU, June 7 (Bernama)-- A total of 650 students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Langkon here have been forced to squat at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Langkon since 2010 to continue their schooling.

Sabah Education, Science and Technology Minister Datuk James Ratib said this was due to the construction of SMK Langkon having been abandoned for 16 years.

"The situation that has been going on for more than a decade has not only affected the aspects of facilities and comfort of learning but also affected efforts to create a more conducive and quality educational environment for students," he said in a statement here today.

James said he had seen the situation at the school and the matter urgently required attention and immediate action from all relevant parties because education is a priority that cannot be compromised.

He said children in Langkon were entitled to enjoy perfect educational facilities like other students in the state.

He said the matter would be taken directly to Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek to seek immediate solutions and appropriate follow-up action to ensure that the project could continue and restart soon.

"We hope that close cooperation between the state and federal governments can be strengthened to find the best solution to the project in the interests of students, teachers and the local community," he said.
