MELAKA, June 7 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Health (MOH) is planning the development of several health infrastructure projects in Melaka under the Rolling Plan Two (RP2) of the 13th Malaysian Plan (13MP) worth RM1.8 billion, said its Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.
He added that among the planned infrastructure developments is a Type 2 Specialist Hospital covering 24.2 hectares in Ayer Keroh here costing an estimated RM875 million.
“The hospital will have 400 beds and focus on providing Cardiology, Cardiothoracic, Neurosurgery and Ambulatory Care Centre (ACC) services.
“In addition, we are expediting the construction of the RM697 million 476-bed capacity Women and Children’s Block (WCC) at the Melaka Hospital, which is currently in the tender process, to resolve the capacity issues at the hospital,” he said after a working visit to the Melaka Hospital here today.
Also present were Hang Tuah Jaya Member of Parliament Adam Adli Abd Halim, who is also the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, state Health, Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem and Melaka Health Department director Dr Husnina Ibrahim.
Elaborating, Dr Dzulkefly said the MOH also plans to demolish and rebuild the 64-year old Jasin Health Clinic (Type 2) and Jasin District Integrated Health Complex at an estimated cost of RM126.99 million.
He said the project would also include the construction of a new Jasin District Health Office.
He added that the MOH will also seek approval for Preliminary Work Details under RP2 of the 13MP for the Bukit Katil Health Clinic (Type 2), which is expected to cost RM50 million and become a fully equipped Health Referral Centre (One-Stop Centre) to accommodate a population density of over 80,243 by 2030.
“The MOH will also seek Preliminary Work Details under RP2 of the 13MP for the Duyong Health Cllinic (Type 2) costing an estimated RM50 million aimed at supporting operations at the Ujong Pasir Health Clinic, which is facing severe space constraints.
“These efforts reflect the Unity Government’s full commitment to ensuring the health ecosystem in Melaka remains competitive
Meanwhile, he said he has also approved a special allocation of RM6 million aimed at resolving the issue of facility repairs and upgrades as well as the urgent need for medical and non-medical assets in the six facilities he visited.
The six health facilities are the Durian Tunggal Health Clinic, Jasin Health Clinic, Jasin Hospital, Bukit Katil Rural Clinic, Melaka Hospital and Alor Gajah Hospital.
“I hope that this immediate allocation approval and the long-term planning will provide comfort to patients and facilitate the work of health personnel,” he said.
During his working visit to Melaka, Dr Dzulkefly also officiated the launch of a Mobile Dental Clinic at the Jasin Health Clinic to ensure wider access to dental health to the local community.
