Police Ready For State Elections In Johor, Negeri Sembilan - KDNKA Director

IPOH, 5 Jun (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is fully prepared to ensure security and maintain public order during the upcoming Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections following the dissolution of the State Legislative Assemblies (DUNs) in both states.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the department is currently fine-tuning manpower and logistical requirements to ensure that the entire election process proceeds smoothly, safely and in an orderly manner.

He said preliminary preparations are already underway, including identifying personnel requirements at each location and coordinating logistical support based on local needs and challenges.

“Following the dissolution of the DUNs in Johor and Negeri Sembilan, we are making the necessary preparations and will be on standby in terms of deployment, particularly involving human resources and logistics, to ensure that all election processes are conducted smoothly, safely and under control,” he said.

He told reporters this after witnessing the handing over of duties to the new Perak police chief, Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin, formerly Deputy Penang Police Chief, by the former state police chief, Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin, who has been appointed Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) director.

Mohd Yusri said heads of the KDNKA departments in the two states had also been instructed to provide detailed briefings on their respective deployment plans.

He added that if there is a shortage of personnel in either state, assistance will be sought from neighbouring contingents to ensure adequate security coverage throughout the election period.

On logistical requirements, Mohd Yusri said assessments are still ongoing, as each state presents different operational demands depending on factors such as geographical size, terrain and the number of polling centres.

“We are still conducting assessments because each state differs in terms of area, terrain and operational requirements. Deployments will be determined based on these factors,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mohd Yusri urged the public to comply with all regulations and instructions issued by the authorities and the Election Commission (EC) to ensure the democratic process is conducted in a peaceful and orderly atmosphere.

He also called on all parties to cooperate with security personnel in maintaining public order at polling centres and surrounding areas to prevent any untoward incidents.

“Compliance with regulations and cooperation from the public are crucial in ensuring security and public order are maintained throughout the election period,” he said.

Last Monday, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the dissolution of the 56-seat Johor State Assembly, effective June 1, after obtaining the consent of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail.

Yesterday, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, after receiving the consent of the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir,  announced that the 36-seat State Assembly would be dissolved effective June 5.
