From Abdul Rahman Fahmi Abdul Aziz

KAMPOT (CAMBODIA), May 27 (Bernama) -- In the spirit of Aidiladha and compassion beyond borders, Bank Rakyat continued its ‘Kembara Korban Kemboja’ programme this year with the contribution of 52 sacrificial cows worth more than RM178,000 for Muslim communities here.

The annual programme is a continuation of the ‘Kembara Kemboja’ initiative introduced by the bank in 2015.

This year, korban (sacrificial) meat was distributed to 5,400 families across 24 villages in the Kampot district, including Kampung Phum Cham and Kampung Keh villages.

Bank Rakyat chief financial officer Nor Haimee Zakaria said the programme aims to reach out to communities in remote areas of Cambodia living in hardship, while also allowing Muslims in the country to experience the joy of Aidiladha celebrations.

“This year, apart from the korban contribution, we are also distributing food baskets through our new ‘Salam Aidiladha’ programme.

“This is not only carried out in Cambodia, but also in Malaysia, reflecting our role in fulfilling our corporate social responsibility each year,” he told Bernama at the An-Nur Mosque in Samraong village here today.

He also encouraged the public to plan their korban ritual early through the Tabung Qurban Savings Account-i available via the i-Rakyat banking application.

Nor Haimee said customers can start saving gradually from as low as RM20 into their personal accounts.

“This is one of the best ways to encourage Muslims to save little by little, and once the amount is sufficient, the money can be used to perform the korban ritual every year,” he said.

Among the collaborating partners involved are Surau Al-Barakah Menara Kembar Bank Rakyat, Maahad Imam Syafi’e Kampung Keh Kampot, Pusat Wakaf Endowmen Zakat Khairat dan Sedekah, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Yayasan As-Syafi’e, Shafi’e Charitable Association and Surau Bangi Perdana.
