Malaysia’s Participation In Edison Awards Boosts Cultural, Arts Networks - Yuneswaran

KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s participation in international arts platforms such as the Edison Awards, which recognises excellence in the Tamil Nadu film industry, can help expand cultural networks, promote the country’s diversity and strengthen people-to-people diplomacy through the arts and creative industries.

Deputy National Unity Minister R. Yuneswaran said prestigious platforms such as the Edison Awards also open up wider opportunities for collaboration between Malaysia and Tamil Nadu in the fields of filmmaking, arts, creative content and the entertainment industry.

He also described the involvement of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) as a supporting partner of Edison Awards 2026 as a positive step towards enhancing Malaysia’s visibility on the international arts and cultural stage.

“The ties between Malaysia and Tamil Nadu are not only rooted in history, language and cultural heritage, but are also strengthened through the exchange of ideas, talents and creative works capable of uniting communities through the universal values of art,” he said in a statement today.

Yuneswaran attended the 18th Edison Awards ceremony at the Chennai Trade and Convention Centre in India at the invitation of the organisers, where he served as a presenter for several film award categories.

His presence reflected Malaysia’s continued commitment to strengthening cultural, artistic and creative networks across borders, in line with the role of the entertainment industry as a bridge for people-to-people ties and an important medium for fostering understanding among communities of diverse cultural backgrounds.

In his speech at the ceremony, Yuneswaran expressed appreciation to Edison Awards chairman J. Selvakumar and the organising committee for their continued commitment to promoting artistic excellence, recognising talent and celebrating cultural achievements through the awards ceremony.
