JIPS To Fully Handle Probe Into Discovery Of Prohibited Items In Ipoh IPD Lock-up

TELUK INTAN, May 23 (Bernama) -- Investigations into police officers and personnel believed to be linked to the discovery of prohibited items at Ipoh district police headquarters (IPD) Sentral police station lock-up, on May 12, will be fully handled by Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS). 

Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the internal investigation has been completed, and several individuals have been called to give their statements. 

“The internal investigation has been concluded and several identified individuals have given statements to JIPS, which is conducting the probe in collaboration with the Perak police contingent headquarters (IPK). 

“If JIPS finds the case to be serious, a disciplinary board will be appointed to determine the appropriate punishment for those involved,” he said. 

Noor Hisam, who is also Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) director said this at a press conference after officiating the Crime Prevention Carnival town hall discussion in conjunction with the 219th Police Day celebration at Dataran Menara Condong here today. 

On May 15, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) had suspended the officers and personnel involved following the discovery of prohibited items in the Ipoh IPD lock-up cell. 

It was reported that a surprise inspection by Perak IPK JIPS uncovered various prohibited items, including drugs, mobile phones and sharp weapons, inside a lock-up cell at the Sentral police station, on May 12, following a public tip-off. 

At the same time, Noor Hisam said the police will tighten security at lock-ups, including deploying the K9 unit to screen detainees and visitors. 

He said this is to prevent similar incidents from recurring and restore PDRM’s image, which has been tarnished by the case. 

“We take this issue seriously and will not compromise with any officer or personnel who is negligent or violates standard operating procedures, thereby jeopardising lock-up security and the integrity of the police force,” he said.
