LABUAN, May 19 (Bernama) -- The Labuan Public Works Department (JKR) has carried out 55 corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives since 2025, reflecting its continued commitment to supporting the local community beyond its formal jurisdiction.
Labuan JKR director Mohd Faizul Ali Hanapiah said the department’s emergency response team had implemented 41 CSR activities throughout 2025 and another 14 so far this year, covering public facilities, community areas, religious institutions, schools, government premises and residential neighbourhoods.
He said the initiatives were carried out in the interest of public welfare, community safety and the overall well-being of the people.
“Although some of these works are beyond JKR’s direct jurisdiction, we continue to assist where possible because the needs of the local community remain our priority.
“Our CSR efforts are ongoing, and we will continue to work with relevant agencies, village communities and local stakeholders to ensure public facilities and community areas remain safe, functional and well maintained,” he said.
Among the initiatives undertaken were water supply assistance in collaboration with the Water Department, road repairs using the “carpet patching” method, and repainting and beautification works at the Ministry of Communications Complex, which houses the Bernama Labuan bureau, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and the Information Department.
Mohd Faizul said Labuan JKR also provided logistics assistance to SK Pekan Satu, carried out road repairs at Masjid An-Nur and the Royal Malaysian Air Force base in Membedai, grass-cutting works at a religious school, and road repairs at Taman Mahkota Impian.
He said the team was also involved in clearing uprooted trees in residential areas, conducting gotong-royong with Kg Sungai Labu villagers, and carrying out clearance and repair works following a landslide at a villager’s house.
Other initiatives included beach cleaning works at Rusukan Besar Island, CSR preparation works for the Borneo Flora Festival — one of Labuan’s largest public events — and assistance in providing assets for community programmes.
Mohd Faizul said Labuan JKR’s CSR involvement complemented its wider role as a technical agency responsible for supporting government infrastructure, maintenance coordination and emergency response readiness.
