ISKANDAR PUTERI, May 6 (Bernama) -- The Johor government has allocated about RM42.139 million since 2022 to support the healthcare sector in the state.
State Health and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Ling Tian Soon said the allocation had been used for upgrading facilities, adding medical equipment, enhancing emergency departments, as well as providing one-off pantry assistance to hospitals, district health offices, dental clinics and clinics in the state.
“Although healthcare falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government, we chose to act instead of merely waiting. We chose to help instead of looking for excuses,” he said during the winding-up session at the Johor State Legislative Assembly sitting at Bangunan Sultan Ismail here today.
He said the state government understood the reality of pressures faced by hospitals and had therefore implemented various initiatives, including allocations for locum doctors and medical assistants (MAs) to reduce workload pressures at hospital emergency departments.
Meanwhile, Ling, who is also Yong Peng assemblyman, said the state government’s continuous efforts had reduced the number of rivers classified under pollution levels four and five from 14 previously to seven currently.
He said the commitment would continue, with Sungai Segget and Sungai Danga targeted for rehabilitation this year to ensure Johor achieves its mission of zero polluted rivers by 2030.
At the same time, he said the state government did not take lightly the issue of human-elephant conflict, allocating RM600,000 to relocate 26 elephants from July last year until this month.
