MyDigital ID Forms Backbone Of Secure Digital Ecosystem, Says DPM Zahid

30/04/2026 07:43 PM

PUTRAJAYA, April 30 (Bernama) -- MyDigital ID plays a critical role as the foundation of a national digital ecosystem, providing a secure and reliable way to verify identity online and enabling Malaysians to access services with confidence, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

He said strong momentum is already visible, with millions of Malaysians having begun using MyDigital ID, signalling that the foundation is in place and that the direction taken is both relevant and necessary.

“Congratulations. Although MyDigital ID received various reactions during its launch, it has achieved encouraging numbers. So, congratulations to the MyDigital ID team.

“Our approach has been deliberate. We began by strengthening collaboration within the financial sector, working closely with MyDigital ID and the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) to enhance identity verification in digital transactions and safeguard sensitive financial interactions,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid was speaking to reporters after officiating and witnessing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) exchange ceremony between MyDigital ID and strategic partners here today, which was also attended by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said efforts are now expanding into a broader and more interconnected landscape spanning the mobile ecosystem, federal and state government services, the education sector, as well as digital platforms serving millions of users daily.

He said each of these sectors plays a different role but is connected by a common need for a secure and seamless way to verify identity, adding that collaboration must not happen in silos but be coordinated across the entire ecosystem.

“When government agencies, industry players and digital platforms move in alignment, we create a system that is stronger, more resilient, and capable of responding to evolving risks,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid said the direction forward is a “one key” approach, where a single trusted identity enables reliable access to multiple services without friction and duplication.

“This is the vision we must realise - a Malaysia where digital identity becomes a national backbone and empowers the rakyat to participate fully in the digital economy,” he said.

He said digital transformation is no longer a future ambition but a present responsibility, stressing that the country must build a digital ecosystem that works for everyone.

“MyDigital ID is a step in that direction. But its real value lies in how well we implement it, how closely we work together, and how consistently it delivers in the hands of the rakyat,” he said.

“If we get this right, insya-Allah, we will not only strengthen our digital economy, but we will build a system that Malaysians can rely on. And that responsibility lies with all of us,” he added.

Today’s MoU exchange ceremony saw MyDigital ID formalising collaborations with 29 organisations to expand the use of Malaysia’s national digital identity across key sectors.

The MoU exchange ceremony involved, among others, CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) for federal and state government agencies, Yayasan MyKasih for the welfare ecosystem, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) for education, SOCAR Mobility Malaysia Sdn Bhd (SOCAR) for digital platforms, and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) for technology enablers, to expand the use of MyDigital ID across key sectors.

These collaborations will support wider use of MyDigital ID in areas such as welfare, education, federal and state government agencies, digital platforms and technology sectors, helping users verify their identity more easily while strengthening protection against fraud and misuse.
