KULIM, April 25 (Bernama) -- The Kulim Urban Community Fiesta 2026 and Kulim Kedah Silver Ride 2026, held at Dewan Putra Kulim here today, served as an integrated platform to strengthen ties between local authorities, agencies, and the community.
Kulim Kedah Municipal Council (MPKK) President, Datuk Elmi Yusoff, said that the simultaneous hosting of both programmes was organised in conjunction with the 25th Silver Jubilee celebration of MPKK.
“The Kulim Urban Community Fiesta 2026 plays a vital role as a platform for community unity. Through various organised activities - be it entertainment, entrepreneurship, sports, or culture - this fiesta opens up space for the public to interact, share experiences, and strengthen social bonds,” he told reporters here today.
The opening ceremony was officiated by the Kedah State Government Secretary, Datuk Seri Norizan Khazali.
Meanwhile, Elmi said the Kulim Kedah Silver Ride 2026 is a cycling event that not only encourages a healthy lifestyle but also promotes Kulim as a friendly city for recreation and outdoor activities.
“Programmes like this are very important as they promote a healthy and active lifestyle, while also increasing social interaction among the community. This programme serves as a platform for participation across all age groups and revitalises the local community economy,” he said.
He added that both programmes, which ran from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm, received full support from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT).
“Today’s programme also gathered various community activities, including agency exhibitions, health screenings, recycling campaigns, career carnivals, sports activities, competitions, the Jualan Rahmah Programme, and direct customer service for the public."
“Through an inclusive and relaxed approach, this programme gives the public an opportunity to obtain information, interact with agencies, and participate in beneficial activities for all ages,” he said.
In a related development, a total of 220 participants, including one from Brunei, took part in the Kulim Kedah Silver Ride 2026.
Six categories were contested: Men’s Open (ages 16 to 30), Men’s Junior Master (31 to 40), Men’s Senior Master (41 to 50), Men’s Veteran (51 to 60), Legendary Men (61 and above), and Women’s Open (16 and above).
Meanwhile, Elmi expressed that such programs help promote Kulim as an active, harmonious, inclusive, and progressive community city.
“Kulim has immense potential to continue growing as a high-tech industrial hub, an active and inclusive community city, and an environmentally friendly and sustainable town, serving as an example for other areas,” he added.
