Education Reform Must Focus On Talent, Values, Human Capital - Anwar

JOHOR BAHRU, April 24 (Bernama) -- The government’s efforts to elevate Form Six as a pre-university and strengthen the role of the Teacher Education Institute (IPG) reflect the need for a more mature and forward-looking national education system.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that in today’s rapidly evolving world, shaped by digital technology, artificial intelligence and constant change, infrastructure alone is no longer sufficient.

“What we must develop is talent, intellectual capacity, moral character and human values,” he said in a Facebook post following his visit to Johor today.

He stressed that the aspiration of building a MADANI nation must be underpinned by a strong and resilient economy.

However, economic progress, he said, must go hand in hand with efforts to nurture a society that is knowledgeable, wise and just, regardless of whether its people live in cities, villages, rural interiors or plantation communities.

Drawing on the thoughts of renowned Islamic scholar Ismail al-Faruqi, Anwar noted that the Hijrah of Prophet Muhammad SAW was not merely a historical migration or the establishment of a new social order.

Rather, it gave rise to a unique generation, jilul quraniyul farid, anchored in faith, values and a deep love of knowledge, he said.

In line with this vision, Anwar also approved an allocation of RM200,000 for the needs of the Temenggong Ibrahim Campus of the Teacher Education Institute in Johor, as part of the government’s continued commitment to strengthening quality education for all.
