PUTRAJAYA, April 16 (Bernama) -- The 2026 Malaysian Higher Education Institutions Students’ Integrity and Anti-Corruption Carnival (KIARA) will take place in Cyberjaya this Saturday (April 18) to strengthen students' role as leaders of change in the fight against corruption.
Organised by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the event will be held at Dewan Tun Canselor, Multimedia University (MMU), Cyberjaya, from 9 am to 5.30 pm and is expected to be attended by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
MACC Community Education Division director Datuk Ahmad Nizam Ismail said the carnival will bring together 1,500 participants from the Anti-Corruption Student Force (AMAR), representing six public and private higher education institutions.
He said the event aims to provide advocacy through thematic town hall sessions with MACC and strategic partners, including the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
“MACC is aware that today’s students not only possess intellectual capabilities, but some are also bold and radical in highlighting issues or topics related to corruption.
“The initiative to create a space for interaction and communication between the agency and students is not something new, however, the approach used now is more organised and structured,” he said in a statement today.
On anti-corruption preventive education, Ahmad Nizam added that AMAR has been established in 119 institutions, while the Anti-Corruption Student Volunteer Cadet Corps (SUAR), a uniformed volunteer programme, is being implemented at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) and Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK).
“The carnival, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, is timely as students are seen as a group within society capable of acting as dynamic agents of change,” he said.
He added that MACC believes students have a significant influence in promoting anti-corruption awareness.
“This is not only due to their large numbers but is also influenced by their intellectual capacity,” he said.
With the theme ‘Berani Memerangi Rasuah: Mahasiswa Peneraju Perubahan,' Ahmad Nizam said the carnival serves as a platform for sharing anti-corruption ideas, in line with the aspirations of the International Anti-Corruption Day celebrations for 2025–2026.
“It highlights the commitment of all levels of society to fight corruption continuously and collectively. This one-day programme also provides a platform for students to express and combine their ideas in an organised and prudent way.
“The organisation of this carnival is also proof of our openness and continuous commitment to create a generation of students who are brave, principled, and possessed of high integrity, subsequently leading the change towards a corruption-free Malaysia,” he said.
