PUTRAJAYA, April 15 (Bernama) -- A total of 441 false content items related to the global energy crisis have been identified following public complaints since March 29, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said.
Fahmi, who is also the MADANI government spokesperson, said all the content had been marked for takedown after official complaints were received from the public, before removal requests were submitted by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to the relevant social media platforms.
“Of the total false content identified, 54 investigation papers have been opened, 12 have been submitted to the Attorney General’s Chambers for review and further action, while another 42 investigation papers are still ongoing,” he said.
He said this during a briefing on the global energy crisis and a post-Cabinet meeting press conference here today.
Fahmi said a false infographic misusing the format of a local media organisation, purportedly carrying an announcement on the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM), had also been detected circulating since yesterday.
He reminded the public that any changes to fuel prices would only be announced every Wednesday at around 6 pm or 7 pm through official channels of the Ministry of Finance (MOF).
“Any information created or circulated before that day and time, which is not disseminated through the official MOF platforms, is likely to be false,” he said.
