KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed relevant authorities to take immediate and decisive action following a fire at Sekolah Menengah Ugama (SMU) (A) Darul Ulum Muhammadiah in Bachok, Kelantan, on Sunday.
In a Facebook post, he said instructions had been issued to the Ministry of Education, the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department and other related agencies.
The Prime Minister said the priority is to ensure student safety and minimise disruption to learning caused by the incident.
“The MADANI government will expedite the necessary assistance and work with all parties to accelerate recovery efforts, ensuring the school can resume operations as soon as possible.
“As I have stressed before, the safety, comfort and welfare of our children in their pursuit of knowledge remain the government’s foremost priority,” he posted.
Three blocks of the school, which was established in 1990, comprising academic facilities, a supervisory office and a boys’ hostel were destroyed in the blaze, but no injuries were reported.
Yesterday, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said that the ministry had approved an allocation of RM100,000 for cleaning and basic repairs, including electrical rewiring and restoration of water supply at the school.
