Marriott Business Council Malaysia Hands Over Truck To Kechara Soup Kitchen

KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 (Bernama) -- Marriott Business Council Malaysia (MBC) has marked a significant milestone in its long-standing partnership with Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) by handing over a dedicated outreach truck to enhance the organisation’s ability to serve vulnerable communities nationwide.

In a statement, MBC said the truck will support KSK’s operational needs, improving the efficiency of its food distribution and outreach efforts across the country.

It said in addition to the truck handover, MBC also contributed essential food items to KSK, including canned food, cooking oil, rice, Milo and Quaker Oats, which will directly support the organisation’s daily outreach efforts in providing meals to homeless and underserved communities across Malaysia.

Marriott International Malaysia market vice-president George Varughese said the contribution reflects Marriott’s continued commitment to creating positive community impact through Serve 360: Doing Good in Every Direction.

He said the partnership with KSK, which began in 2011, has grown into a meaningful and enduring collaboration over the past 15 years.

“What began as a shared commitment to serve the underprivileged has evolved into a long-standing relationship built on trust, compassion and purpose.

“This journey reflects our belief that hospitality extends far beyond our hotel walls, it is about caring for people and creating meaningful change in the communities where we live and work,” he said in the statement.

Meanwhile, MBC chairman Volker Burth said proceeds from the 2025 Road to Give campaign enabled the purchase of the dedicated truck.

“More than a vehicle, this contribution will help strengthen Kechara’s day-to-day outreach efforts and extend support to communities in need. It also reflects the power of what we can achieve when our hotels come together with a shared purpose,” he said.

Over the years, KSK has worked closely with Marriott hotels across Malaysia to support underprivileged communities through fundraising initiatives, volunteer engagement and outreach programmes.

Participating properties include Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel & Convention Centre; Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur, City Centre; Courtyard by Marriott Setia Alam; Penang Marriott Hotel and Marriott Executive Apartments Kuala Lumpur.
