LUNDU, April 3 (Bernama) -- The proposed construction of a new Lundu District Police Headquarters (IPD) is pending approval from the state government, despite a suitable site having already been identified.
Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the new facility is crucial to enhancing police services, particularly in terms of safety, operational efficiency, and meeting the needs of the local community.
“However, the project status has yet to be finalised as the land involved falls under the jurisdiction of the state government and requires further approval.
“This application must be brought to the state level before any official decision can be made,” she said when met after an official working visit to the Lundu District Office and the Kasih Network Programme Equipment Donation Presentation ceremony here today.
Nancy, who is the Santubong Member of Parliament, added that the construction project for the Sematan Police Station under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) has already been approved.
The project involves the demolition and reconstruction of the existing building at an estimated cost of RM2 million.
“Although Sematan is a smaller area than Lundu, the need for a new Lundu IPD is more urgent, given its role as the main hub for police services in the area,” she said.
