KUANTAN, April 2 (Bernama) -- The BAS.MY Kuantan C64 route begins serving Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) dan Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) from today, a move welcomed by parents and students who no longer have to walk nearly 800 metres after school.
Sanwa Tours (M) Sdn Bhd Operations head Mustaza Mohamad said the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) had approved a restructuring of the BAS.MY route to include the area around the two schools.
“Trips into the school area are restricted to one or two times daily, in the morning to send students to school and in the afternoon to pick them up.
“Students will be picked up around 2 pm from Monday to Thursday and at 12 pm on Fridays,” he said when met by Bernama at SMK Sungai Baging here today.
He said the new route could proceed as planned, as the additional travel distance is less than 400 metres.
Mustaza said the company was always open to reviewing the BAS.MY route if any issues arose or new requests were made in the future, before submitting them to APAD for further consideration.
“As an operator, we cannot make adjustments arbitrarily because the operation is subject to the terms of the contract and the approval of the authorities,” he said.
The issue came to attention after students had to walk from school because the bus did not stop in front of the schools.
Officer at Pusat Komuniti MADANI Indera Mahkota Ahmad Saifullah Razali, representing the Political Secretary to the Prime Minister Datuk Ahmad Farhan Fauzi, said the issue was successfully resolved within about 36 hours thanks to the cooperation of various parties.
He said Ahmad Farhan had then taken the initiative to contact a representative of the bus operator company and APAD, and had informed the Ministry of Transport so that the issue could be resolved immediately.
Ahmad Saifullah also expressed his appreciation to the management of the bus operator and the Ministry of Transport for their cooperation and swift action in approving the route change for the welfare of the students and the local community.
