ALOR SETAR, March 25 (Bernama) -- Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has improved its position in Accounting and Finance, ranking 101–150 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, up from 151–200 previously.
UUM vice-chancellor Prof Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed said the latest ranking places the university first in Malaysia for citations and H-index indicators, and second overall in the country for the subject.
“This achievement reflects the commitment of the entire UUM community, particularly academic staff from the Tunku Puteri Safinaz School of Accountancy (TISSA) and the School of Economics, Finance and Banking (SEFB).
“The improvement is driven by strong efforts in high-impact research, publications, industry engagement and international collaborations, positioning UUM prominently at both national and global levels,” he said in a statement today.
He said the quality and international recognition of programmes in accounting, including accounting information systems, international accounting, taxation, finance, banking and risk management, have contributed to strong demand among local and international students.
Ahmad Martadha expressed appreciation to UUM staff for the achievement, noting that it further strengthens the university’s position as a recognised institution in management and business education.
He said the university also improved in Business and Management Studies as well as Economics and Econometrics, which rose to the 201–250 band from 251–300 previously.
Meanwhile, UUM’s law subject was listed for the first time in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, placing in the 351–400 band.
“The debut listing reflects the positive development of the university’s law programme and highlights the diversity of UUM’s academic strengths beyond management and business,” he said.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 evaluates higher education institutions across 55 subjects grouped into five broad areas, based on academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations, H-index and international research collaboration.
