PUTRAJAYA, March 9 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) will continue to strengthen their strategic cooperation across various areas, particularly in enhancing integrity and governance within the country’s defence sector.

The commitment was reaffirmed during a courtesy call by the Chief of Defence Forces, General Datuk Malek Razak Sulaiman, on MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki at the MACC Headquarters here today.

In a statement, Azam said the collaboration will also see the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the MACC Intelligence Division and the Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organisation (MDIO).

“This initiative represents a strategic approach to ensure that all processes are carried out transparently, responsibly and in compliance with government financial regulations and governance standards.

“MACC has also agreed to collaborate with the MAF in integrity management training and in strengthening the armed forces’ anti-corruption strategies,” he said.

During the meeting, both parties also discussed governance practices in procurement management, including tenders and quotations, with a focus on strengthening oversight over the next six months.

The discussion further explored efforts to enhance cooperation in media management and strengthen communication mechanisms to support the agenda of preventing corruption within the defence ecosystem.

“Both parties also exchanged views on several technical matters and explored opportunities for bilateral cooperation between MACC and MAF to improve the efficiency of the service delivery system while reinforcing a culture of integrity within the national defence institution,” the statement said.

The meeting also marked the first official engagement between the two leaders following Malek Razak’s appointment as the 24th Chief of Defence Forces, effective Feb 1.
