KOTA KINABALU, March 4 (Bernama) -- Occupants of about 100 houses in Kampung Sembulan Tengah here have been asked to vacate immediately to allow Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) to carry out clearing works for the redevelopment of the area.
Kota Kinabalu Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah said that 27 houses in the village have been demolished so far, and DBKK is now carrying out clearing works.
“Actually, those still living there are only tenants. We have issued notices and hope they will relocate as soon as possible. So far, no extension notice has been given (to the occupants),” he told reporters after visiting the Lintasan Deasoka Ramadan bazaar here today.
Previous media reports stated that two demolition notices were issued on Oct 14 and Nov 1, 2024, respectively, to occupants of more than 100 houses in the village, as the area had been earmarked for the Sembulan Urban Redevelopment Scheme.
The notices were issued by DBKK to dismantle or relocate the house structures within 14 days, while the State Department of Land and Survey also issued a notice requiring occupants to vacate the land and the structures within the same period.
According to Sabin, the process of selecting a qualified developer to undertake the redevelopment of the area is now at the final stage before being submitted to the state government for approval.
