Bernama Receives RM36,737 In Zakat Wakalah From MAIWP

KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) today received ‘zakat wakalah’ contribution amounting to RM36,737 from the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) to assist staff in need.

Bernama Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin said the contribution would be distributed to eligible staff and their family members to help ease their financial burden, particularly in preparation for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

She said a total of 67 recipients would benefit from the zakat assistance, which was channelled based on applications for welfare, education and medical purposes.

A mock cheque was presented by MAIWP deputy chief executive officer (Operations) Ahmad Talmizi Yahaya to Nur-ul Afida at the Bernama Iftar 2026 event held at Wisma Bernama here.

Also present were Bernama Chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, Acting Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Economic News Service Harlina Samson, and department heads.

At the event, Nur-ul Afida also presented a contribution to Bernama’s Surau As-Syafie to support programmes aimed at enlivening the Ramadan month.

She said the breaking of fast event not only fostered the spirit of Ramadan but also strengthened ties among Bernama staff.

Attendees also took part in a Ramadan ‘tazkirah’ (religious talk) delivered by MAIWP Islamic Affairs Officer Abdul Fattah Abdul Rahman.

Nur-ul Afida said Bernama will organise several corporate social responsibility programmes this Ramadan, including contributions to staff at Kuala Lumpur Hospital and the ‘Sepatu Raya’ programme for orphans and children from underprivileged families under the Association for Women and Wives of Bernama Employees (Benita).

“We will continue to carry out programmes that bring benefits to a wider segment of the community,” she said.
