Kelantan Gold Promoted As Tourism Product Through Gold Month 2026

KOTA BHARU, Feb 25 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan state government launched the Gold Month 2026 programme as an intiative to promote local gold as a tourism product and raise public awareness about its important as a store of value.

State Tourism, Culture, Arts and Heritage Committee chairman Datuk Kamaruddin Md Nor said the programme, which runs through March in conjunction with Ramadan and Aidilfitri, has the potential to attract tourists to gold businesses in the state.

Areas such as Siti Khadijah Market and Tuan Padang Bazaar are popular gold business centres and will be promoted as destinations to shop for gold, he said, adding that while there were no plans to gazette any area as gold zones, the state government will intensify promotions at existing areas to raise their attractiveness to tourists.

“In terms of security, we see that there are thousands of transactions taking place at Siti Khadijah Market and it has a great atmosphere without needing strict security controls. 

This shows a harmonious and confident situation in Kelantan,” he told reporters after the launch here today.

He added that gold prices are set by certain bodies and subject to current markets, so the state government is not capable of setting or lowering pries, but could suggest to operators to offer more competitive designs and rates throughout the programme.

The programme is expected to be a platform to strengthen the local gold industry and boost economic activities during festive seasons, he said.
