Storm Hits Taman Damai, Taiping, 10 Families Sheltered In Relief Centre

IPOH, Feb 24 (Bernama) -- A temporary relief centre has been opened to shelter 10 families following a storm and uprooted trees in Taman Damai, Simpang, Taiping this afternoon.

Larut, Matang and Selama (LMS) District Disaster Management Committee chairman Mohd Nasrul Menhat said the temporary relief centre at Taman Kaya multipurpose hall opened at 6.30 pm today.

“More than 10 families were unable to return home as clean-up work could not be carried out today,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the Bukit Gantang Parliamentary Service Centre said 92 people from 10 families were at the temporary relief centre as of 8 pm.

Affected areas include Taman Kaya, Kg Sentosa, Batu 2½, Kg Pak Darus, Taman Ria, Taman Damai, Taman Pengkalan Indah, Pengkalan Aur, Simpang Perdana People’s Housing Project, and Jalan Simpang.

The storm damaged the roofs of homes and businesses, Ramadan bazaar tents, a mosque walkway, cemetery fences, the roof of Taman Pengkalan Indah surau, and several vehicles.
