MOE To Ensure Education Access For Five Siblings Without Documents

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has assured the best possible educational assistance and opportunities to five siblings who recently went viral for having no identification documents to ensure they do not fall behind in their studies.

In a Facebook post today, Fadhlina confirmed that the school registration process for the siblings had proceeded smoothly, and they are now able to attend lessons just like their peers.

“This morning, I visited Sekolah Kebangsaan Petaling 1 to meet the five siblings whose story touched many hearts recently due to their lack of identification documents.

“Proactive measures taken by the National Registration Department (NRD) has ensured the issue was resolved swiftly, and these young citizens have now received their respective identification papers,” she said.

On 12 Feb, the siblings received their birth certificates and MyKid cards, which were presented by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail at Pangsapuri Rima Riang.

The five children are Mohamat Nor Shuhairil Mohd Zahari, 11; Noor Hairiza, 10; Noor Syuhaila, eight; Mohamat Nor Zuhairi, seven; and Noor Faszila, four.

The plight of their mother, Noorsyuhada Mohamad, 33, a single mother of seven, first gained public attention after a video detailing the family’s hardship went viral on social media via a social activist’s initiative on Jan 24.

Following the viral report, the Selangor NRD immediately conducted an on-site visit to initiate the document verification and hospital confirmation processes.
