Rahmah MADANI Sale Helps Consumers To Stock Up During Ramadan

MELAKA, Feb 22 (Bernama) -- The Rahmah MADANI Sale programme not only provides savings on spending, especially on selected food items, but also allows consumers to stock up during Ramadan.

Ramlah Abas, 44, from Taman Kesidang, Kampung Lapan here said that every Ramadan, spending on food items and other basic necessities increases slightly compared to other months because her family chooses to cook their own food instead of buying food to break fast.

"Usually, expenses doubled because I will also stock up on rice, cooking oil, onions, coconut milk, chicken and fish.

"Today I didn't even know there was a Rahmah MADANI Sale but Alhamdulillah when the programme is on, some items were cheaper than the normal price... so I was able to save money," said the housewife and mother of four when met by Bernama at a supermarket here today.

Ramlah said that among the items purchased were fresh chicken, grade B eggs, bottled cooking oil, onions, and cencaru fish which were offered at cheaper prices.

Meanwhile, Murni Ismail, 35, of Limbongan said the Rahmah MADANI Sale is one of the programmes that she looks forward to every month to get food items at special prices.

"Last week, I had already bought some but when I found out there was a sale, I wanted to 'top up' some items such as chicken, fish, onions and eggs.

"This fasting month is indeed a day of cooking, even if it's 'simple', so kitchen items run out quickly but thankfully I can buy them at a slightly cheaper price," said the private sector worker who lives with her mother.

Another shopper, Goh Teck Lai, 55, of Tengkera said the Rahmah MADANI Sale should be organised more often in a month and expanded to more retail shops and supermarkets to make it easier for consumers to get basic necessities at cheaper prices.

He hoped that more wet items such as fish and vegetables would also be offered at Rahmah prices as this sale only involved cencaru fish, small chilies and dried chillies.

"It would be good if more supermarkets and shops held sales like this... when goods are cheap, people can spend more and both parties benefit," said the self-employed worker.

A Bernama survey at the supermarket found that goods offered at Rahmah prices were labelled to inform consumers and to make it easier for them to make smart choices.

Among the items involved in the sale are fresh chicken sold at RM6.95 per kilogramme compared to the original price of RM9 per kilogramme; onions at RM5 per bag compared to the original price of RM6.50 per bag; 30 grade B eggs (RM8.95) compared to the original price of RM12.50.
